The following patient underwent a strategic combination of scalp and beard hair transplantation to address thinning across the frontal hairline, mid-scalp, and crown while maximizing donor resources.

A total of 609 scalp grafts were placed in the frontal hairline and frontal forelock, where the finer characteristics of scalp hair are most appropriate for creating a natural-looking hairline and frame to the face. To increase coverage and density beyond the frontal zone, Dr. Cole utilized 1,288 beard hair grafts, placing 413 grafts in the mid-scalp and 875 grafts in the crown.

Beard hair is often an excellent donor source for patients requiring additional grafts, particularly in the mid-scalp and crown. Because beard hair is typically coarser and provides greater visual bulk than scalp hair, it can create the appearance of increased density while preserving valuable scalp donor reserves. This makes beard hair especially well-suited for areas behind the hairline, where texture differences are less noticeable and coverage is a primary goal.

By combining scalp FUE and beard hair transplantation, Dr. Cole was able to efficiently distribute grafts where they would provide the greatest aesthetic benefit, achieving improved coverage across a large area while maintaining a natural appearance. This case highlights the versatility of body hair transplantation (BHT) and demonstrates how a customized donor management strategy can expand treatment options for patients with extensive hair loss.
