Dry itchy scalp, need help !!! 2 months post op

Postby Kentucky_Suture_King » Wed Aug 23, 2006 9:50 pm

I am 2 months post op from a 986 FIT procedure. I am using Hair Cycle shampoo and Nizoral shampoo. I am taking proscar once per day. I am having a bad case of an itchy dry scalp. I am using the Hair cycle shampoo 2 x per week and the Nizoral shampoo 2 x per week. I thought the Nizoral shampoo would take care of this but it hasn't. I do not have any dandruff, it is just dry and itchy. Is their any good moisturizing scalp lotion or shampoo that I can use? Sometimes I get little red sores on my scalp when it gets really dry. The grafts are coming in slowly, I think most of them came out a month after the procedure but I can still tell a big difference. Most of my itching is mostly in the morning. I would appreciate any suggestions.

itchy scalp after hair transplant

The itching you are experiencing is a sign that you are healing. it will not hurt you, but it can be quite annoying. i have seen people get itchy scalps unrelated to hair transplant surgery in the past. Sometimes they scartch bald spots in their scalp. There usually is no reason for the itching in these cases. It seems to be more of a compulsion than a medical problem. The red bumps indicate two things. One is that hair is growing. Two, you may have a few isolated hairs that did not fall out 2 to 3 weeks after your procedure. these non-growing hairs can lead to pimples that will express the hair when you pop the pimple.

if the itching is a terribly annoying, we can try some topical corticosteroids. let me know if you want a short trial of this. it may help with some of the dryness too. you will see more oil build up if you do not shampoo every day.

i would give the scalp a good scrub and try to get rid of any non-growing hair stubble that is there from the initial transplant process.
