What does the donor area look like after an FIT session?

Postby GirlTech » Sat Aug 05, 2006 10:39 am

Here is a picture of a patient who had 1648 FIT grafts removed from the donor. This is what his donor looks like 12 months after the surgery. There are pictures of the donor with short hair, shaved hair, different lighting, and different angles. I measured the length of the shaved hair to be a range from 1 to 3mm for an average length of 2mm.

WOW - that's awesome. I would love for my donor to look that nice - I know it won't though because of my strip scars - I do hope to get them filled in more though. anyways, do you know what guard length was used to buzz the hair? or was no guard used (is that a 0 guard)? many thx!

We used a clipper with no guard to give this shaven look on the bottom two pictures. The hair measured and average of 2mm long.

Typically, this is the hair cut we give for the shaven FIT procedure; we shave the donor area to this length and leave the top longer, according to patient desires. After we give an all over donor shave down to 1-3mm, we go back over the donor areas with hand-held scissors to prepare them for Dr. Cole's extractions. Dr. Cole wants each hair to be a uniform length (1-3mm is too wide of a variation), so we clip them more precisely to a length of 1.1-2.0mm long. You can see the precision trimming in process in the bottom right picture.
