Body hair loss answers

Postby forhair » Wed Jun 09, 2004 1:21 pm

I'm new to this forum and I'd like to ask about body hair.

Welcome!!, there is a lot of information on this forum without the BIAS posts...pure objective information, take a look at the photos.
This is the last resort being left for me after my previous bad
hair transplants.

Sorry to hear about that, i hope that you will get some help...i think that with a good doctor it is achievable.
Can you please tell me about mega sessions with body hair, do
hairs really grow, how fast and how do they look?

you mentioned the case of the big BHT mega session, this is a very good proof of growth with body hair. no one knows for sure how long it takes for body hair to grow, We do know it can take up to 2 years...anybody who consider BHT should take this in mind.
the results so far shows excellent growth but we can not guarantee because there is no enough data yet.
Can dr. Cole make a dense pack with body hairs with success?

Yes he can...this case is also a proof.
i attache more recent photo that he sent me...it is very blurry but you can see is results for only 6 month.
I've heard that leg hair grow fast, is this truth?

Yes...it is growing faster, the body hair is more coarser then scalp hair, it is the best to use it on the crown...especially BHT from the chest and back,
The leg hair is better for using in the front size of the scalp, but only if there is no other source.

body hair in hair loss

Postby drcole » Wed Jun 09, 2004 6:06 pm

body hair is one of the most exciting new developments in hair restoration surgery. it can help conform a poor candidate to a good candidate or a scarred victim into one with hope.

we use body hair as a last resort at this time. we do not encourage anyone to have body hair done if they have donor hair on their scalp. body hair should be used last unless it is a specialty case such as grafting an eyebrow.

we expect about 50% growth the first year. i do not expect the other 50% to grow for another 1 to 2 years or longer. our concern is that it may never grow, but this is unrealistic. it probably will grow; it simply must get out of telogen first. telogen durations can be very long with body hair and may be over 2 years duration in some cases.

we also are concerned about reports that body hair can grow faster and longer once moved from the body to the scalp. it may not, but we hope it will. the best thing to do regarding body hair today is stay tunned if you can wait. we will have more details available for you very soon. we remain very excited about the use of body hair.

yes, we have seen very fast growth from leg hair.

thanks for this intersting question.

body hair transplant

Postby drcole » Sun Jun 20, 2004 10:21 am

A class 7 will loose well over 65 to 70% of the hair he started with. this means he will maintain about 30 to 35% of his hair.

I have seen densities on the chest that were very high and densities that were very low.

it was often stated that the density on the scalp was 100,000 hairs and 50,000 follicular units prior to hair loss. I do not feel this is accurate though. i feel the average scalp has about 36,000 follicular units. if you loose 70% of them, you will have just over 10,000 follicular units of scalp hair remaining. it is not possible to spread these out over the scalp and achieve a reasonable degree of coverage.

enter body hair. body hair can be more coarse than scalp hair. it can be more wavy. it can be finer and shorter too so it is imperative to evaluate each patient and each body hair individually.

i have seen some patients who have more body hair than they had scalp hair prior to hair loss. these are the ideal candidates for body hair transplants.

body hair is also still in its infancy. we are attempting to discover whether it will grow longer on the the scalp than it did on the body. we are also looking to see if we will get 50% growth or 100% growth. we generally see about 50% growth in the first year, but we have seen up to 70% growth in the first year. Until we know more, we are not encouraging patients to jump on the body hair band wagon. once we have more data, it will be easier to discuss potential body hair results with our patients.

BHT

Postby shine on » Tue Dec 21, 2004 7:34 pm

Per Dr. Cole in June:
body hair is also still in its infancy. we are attempting to discover whether it will grow longer on the the scalp than it did on the body. we are also looking to see if we will get 50% growth or 100% growth. we generally see about 50% growth in the first year, but we have seen up to 70% growth in the first year. Until we know more, we are not encouraging patients to jump on the body hair band wagon. once we have more data, it will be easier to discuss potential body hair results with our patients.
*****
Has the success of your patients with BHT encouraged you to be more aggressive in the use of BH? Specifically, for hairlines and exclusive use of BHT's? I have recession of temples only, with no prior transplant work. However, never felt comfortable with just moving hair around my head. Thus, never considered a HT. OTOH, BHT has really excited me. I feel I have excellent leg BH, and am eagerly waiting to put it to better use  THANKS

body hair transplants

yes, i am extremly excited about body hair. I have no reason to hold back at this time. We are certainly ready to begin some clinical trials and to be much more receptive to those seeking BHT. It is the most exciting new development in the field of hair restoration surgery in the past 15 years in my opinion.

Body Hair

Postby Saify » Sat Jan 08, 2005 4:02 am

I have very dense hair all over my body esp. chest and back. It appears my hair loss patter in #6. The typical donor areas on my head are very thin so I suspect I'm not a good candidate for strip procedure. Can you advise me on where to go to find out if I'm a good candidate for body hair transplant. :?:

Body hair

Update: we have had a chance to visit with our 'Body Hair Star' and I must say I am truly amazed by his continued success!!! It is truley amazing what Dr. Cole has done for this gentleman by totally changing his appearance with hair.

As time continues to tick away, and we have more analysis on body hair, it is apparent that it is indeed a wide open door inviting us to another valuable method of hair restoration.
