how long is your scar?

you can make some of your own measurements and do your own math.

to be safe, you should probably keep the density to 20 to 30 grafts per square centimeter in the scar. If you scar is 0.5 cm wide and 30 cm long, you have 15 square centimeters which would require about 300 to 450 grafts. your scar may not be that long.

it is not uncommon for the scar to be wider at the end. It is wider because the physician who did the strip tied the knot on the suture line. This is well recognized as a cause for a wider scar. To avoid this the surgeon should tie the knot above, below, or to the side of the suture line. this will eliminate the risk of a wider scar at the end. Yours is wider at the end simply due to poor technique.

I would say my scar is roughly 10cm (11cm at the most) long, some of it is 5mm wide but some of it it wider in places, it doesnt seem raised at all and the colour looks very white, not pink.

Once I get my digital camera working properly I will get my wife to take pictures.

As it stands at the moment, I cant really cut my hair lower than 15-20mm at the back without the hair looking thinner in that area.

I'm in London by the way, how often do you come out this far to do consultations?

And also would it be better to intially reduce the scar before infilling with fit?

if you graft the bald scar, you will make it turn pink for up to 6 months. your scar that is 10 cm by 0.5 cm is 5 square centimeters. this means you will need about 100 to 150 grafts in the scar at 20 to 30 per sq. cm. at 40 per sq. cm you would need 200 and at 50 per sq. cm 250.

higher densities carry risks of lower yeilds perhaps as low as 70%, but if it all grows, which it often does, the result can be marvelous.

so its not worth, reducing the size of the scar proir to filling it then?

sometimes it is.

the down side to reducing first is that you are eventually going to need to graft it. if you reduce it, you should wait one year to graft it because scars will continue to widen for one year after your reduce them.

so if you have already had 4 taken out of same place, can the scar still be reduced?
