How dense can a hair transplant be

Postby andyhunt » Fri Jan 13, 2006 6:45 am

After 2 sessions, my head is covered with hair and I am very satisfied however, I wish it could be thicker on top.

In comparison to be being bald it is 10000% better however it is not as thick as it was when i was in my early 20's.

Has anyone had a hair transplant (or 2 or 3 ..) and the final result has been good coverage and thick hair that completely covers the scalp?

PS I've posted this on my own forum and others as well as it's a question I've never had answered.

Ht's are never going to get you what you had in your early 20's ever. And, you should be wary of what the future has in store because your HL has most certainly not stopped. You have gained an illusion of hair. A thinning crown is perfectly cosmetically acceptable. Don't get greedy and save that hair for future procedures...

Nice site by the way!

Bradley,
So there is no way to create an illusion of hair that looks like NO hair loss and NO thinning is present? I am pretty sure that there is something that could make the hair look like before...

Andy,
you could try to use Toppik, or something that conceals your hair a little bit, it will make it a little thiker?

On occassion, I use Dermatch which has an amazing effect.
I will probably have a third (and final) HT towards the end of this year.

Don;t get me wrong, the HT is superb and I am so much more confident now I am no longer bald.
I suppose I'm greedy and want more :)

Andy,

You look so much better after two hair transplants! You are my “HT Hero”. I have a few questions for you.

1. How did you handle you hair loss? Did you take it easy, or did you end up like an emotional wreck?

2. How does it FEEL to get your hair line back? How do you feel looking at your new self in the mirror? How do the ladies respond to it? How did your life change overall?

3. Judging from the pictures, the hair growth exploded at the 19 week mark. Didn’t the wait drive you crazy until then?

I know this sounds stupid but you have given me so much hope. The moment I was finished checking out the weekly pictures, I was so happy for you because it had improved your looks quite a bit. That’s why I asked you how it feels to get the hair back. Not only that, I now know that the money I spend for HT will not be wasted and that the hair WILL grow.

Good luck, and keep us updated after the 3rd surgery!

Thanks for the great words of support - never been anyone's hero before :)

Here's my answers to your questions:
1. How did you handle you hair loss? Did you take it easy, or did you end up like an emotional wreck?
My hair was disappointing for years and I spent £1000's on miracle cures that never worked. It wasn;t really until the year before my 1st transplant that the hairloss really affected me emotionally.
I became depressed, felt ugly and unattractive and my confidence and self esteem disappeared. I almost became a recluse.

2. How does it FEEL to get your hair line back? How do you feel looking at your new self in the mirror? How do the ladies respond to it? How did your life change overall?
My life is completely different now. Everytime I look in themirror, I see a guy with hair.
I no longer feel old, ugly and due to the very posotive response I've had when going out (yes, I go out and party now!) people find me attractive.
My confidence is very high and I have good self esteem

3. Judging from the pictures, the hair growth exploded at the 19 week mark. Didn’t the wait drive you crazy until then?
The wait is a nightmare!
During that time, I had thoughts of - this is not going to work, I have been ripped of, I'm still the same person. I would say the "lull" (Which I have come to call this period) was worse than not having hair.
However, when the hair starts to come through, it is an amazing experience. I can even remember the day I noticed a shadow forming on my head where the new hair was starting to form.

Hey Andy,

I'm just curious. Now i know you said you had about 4000 grafts so far. But how many grafts did you receive during your first procedure?

Thank,

Around 2700 grafts in my first procedure and around 1500 in my second.
