Coping with hair loss

Hello everyone,

How’s everybody doing? It has been a long time since I have posted on this board because I have been busy being mad at the world because of my hair loss :) Some of you might already know: As of today I’m 22, Norwood 3, and have been loosing hair since the age of 18. It’s shaved right now because I just don’t want to look at my hair line and deal with it until I take care of other, more important stuff in my life.

I am not here to whine like a crybaby because crying doesn’t get us anywhere. I’m here to share some “Cognitive coping strategies”. Perhaps some of you have read or know this trick already but it doesn’t matter, it’s for the people that don’t know about it.

The four steps about dealing with hair loss worry:

Step 1: Take out a sheet of paper, and write down exactly what it is you worry about. Define your fears about hair loss. Are you worried that you will not be as attractive enough? Are you worried that you will not be promoted as often? What is it exactly that you fear about your hair loss? You know what they say: “Accurate diagnosis is half the cure”

Step 2: Determine the worst possible outcome that might happen because of your hair loss. What is the worst possible thing or outcome that might happen? Are you going to become totally bald? Are you going to loose all of your hair? Is your wife, fiancé, or girlfriend going to leave you because of it? Is your high school sweetheart that dumped you a while ago run into you on the streets and laugh about your bald head in the face? Are you going to feel like s**t about it?

Step 3: Resolve to accept the worst. Resolve to accept it! Resolve to have it so should it really occur. Accept that all of the above might happen, if you are really worried about it.

Step 4: Start to improve upon the worst. Start to improve upon the worst possible outcome. Start to do something right now that will make sure that the worst possible outcome never happens. Do something about it. Get busy!

As you do this exercise you will notice that the worst possible thing that might happen is not as bad you made it to be. You will probably realize how big of a deal you were making about your hair loss. This is a good trick for any kind of worry and it helped me a lot to deal with many of my worries.

Sounds like you got yourself a plan. Shaving your hair is one of the better ways to solve your hair loss problems...many doctors will not tell you that, but here at this forum we support this approach :)
We have to remmember that shaven look doesn't look good on every person tho...
I also agree with you that hair loss is putting people in a bad mental condiition and dealing with it from this direction will help. A good hair restoration can also take out those deep feelings, i have seen across the years many patients that got their whole life back by restoring the hair.
Good Luck!

Are you serious? They got their life back?

Wow. Thats really wicked! A hair restoration surgery got their life back?! They must have been really depressed and down about their hair loss...

But i cant blame them, I have done my share of crying and being "mad at the world" for a few years too, until one day i decided that it was enough, I wasn't gonna let hair loss ruin my life another second! that day i got my life back.

I don't think that HT surgery will get my whole life back, but i am sure that it will bring out a good part of me that has been dimishing since the past few years.

In my opinion: if no guy cared about his hair loss, all hair transplant surgeons would be unemployed by tomorrow. But we do :)
