I'm thinking of having a hair transplant and am concerned that the hair will eventually recede behind a hair transplant making it look ridiculous - is this true?

It can happened, thats why young guys that are strong into a hair loss progression should be more careful. If you are in your late 20's and you take Propecia/Minoxidil/Avodart there is a big chance that you will be able to maintain your existing hairs. If you are not on any hair loss medications yet, i will strongly advise you to start now if you are looking into hair transplant solution.

I'm 30 and a Norwood 2/3. The only problem is that I can't take propecia or proscar due to side effects. Does this rule me out of having a transplant

If you can't take the pills, minoxidil may be a good choice to maintain some hair...possibly saw palmetto as well.
