We have advocated anagen stimulators prior to body hair transplants for some time. we do not know what the outcome will be. Anything that stimulates the nitrous oxide pathways probably promotes anagen. anagen is important for hair growth. it will not grow in telogen. rather it will rest. we suspect that all telogen hairs do grow, but we will know more after we perform our upcoming study comparing growth rates of anagen and telogen body hairs. the only thing you might miss with the transplantation of a telogen hair is the follicular steele. we do not know what the importance of the follicular steele is.
more recently we have begun to look at a new product line that involves the protaglandins. these product can increase growth rate and hair diameter. this is very early.
our initial HM trials involved body hair. head hair to body grows at a rate of 60%. Body hair to Body should not grow at any higher rate. therefore, our hm trial of 60% for one hair and 60% for the second hair has a probablity of only 36% that we will get two hairs. therefore, it was not the best idea for our study. we are now looking at head hair to head though this is a much more difficult thing to study since there often is more hair on the head. one of the other complicators is that we do not have local people to study so it is hard to follow them daily. we have grown some hair with hm trials, but it has not been the overwhelming success that we hoped for. again, i think the body hair to body was the primary flaw in the study. we remain unperturbed however. we will not stop trying.
