Fit transplant - good candidate

Postby Guest » Wed Nov 17, 2004 9:27 pm

I am looking forward to a consultation with Dr. Cole in the near future but would also like to hear some upfront opinions on my situation. I am 34 yrs old. I started losing hair at 20 years old. My hair line has receeded about 2.5 inches from an already high hairline. I have diffuse thinning on the crown and vertex but it is not bad, the scalp may show through a little at the crown (looks a lot worse wet than dry). Anyway I started propecia in 1998 as soon as I became aware of it and have since switched to avodart in Dec 2002. I threw in minoxidil within the last year. Since I started propecia in 98 my hairloss has stopped (wish I knew about proscar earlier) I believe I gained back a little thickness on thinning hairs from both avodart and minoxidil. My hair used to be very thick everywhere and from what I can tell it is very thick and abundant on the sides. Since I have been at a stale mate with my hair loss for 6 years would that make me a good candidate to try and make the hairline more acceptable? With the conitnued use of drugs I could minimize progression behind where I would have transplanted hair? My goal would be to place grafts in the peaks of the hair line and maybe overall lowering of an inch on the front sides and 1/2 inch at the very front. Thanks in advance for your thoughts or questions. By the way I learned of Dr. Cole via hairsite.com

A consult with the doctor is a good idea. From what you described you sound like a good candidate for FIT. Most people that are candidates for HT are candidate for FIT. Actually even some people that are poor candidates for traditional HT surgery are still FIT candidates.

Your age is working for you. Your stable hair loss is too. And most importantly, you have realistic goals. Hairline/frontal reconstructions are quite common.

Understand that you can still lose hair in your crown on the meds. So after you get FIT you may continue to lose hair. You will still have a natural looking pattern of hair loss though. At this point you can 1) opt for another session, 2) enjoy the full front and let the back go, or 3) clip your hair very short (this is possible with FIT as scarring is far less visible). Also hair cut short can give an illusion of more hair.

The doctor will be able to predict a worse case scenario for you during consultation. This should give you a clearer picture of where your hair loss is going and give more information to think over.

Glad the meds are working for you :)

Fit lock is right. You seem to be a good candidate.
You want to lower the peak (1 inch) more than the middle front (1/2 inch).
It seems you are looking a curve shape in your hairline in state of a V shape.
definitely,a consultation with Doc will be efficient to discuss those issues.
Usually a case like yours would require from 800 to 1200 grfats.
