Small Red Bumps After Surgery

Postby bighoopla » Tue May 04, 2004 3:05 pm

Dr. Cole,

About a week to a week and a half after my surgery, a few red and tender bumps formed on my scalp. They look like pimples, but don't seem to have white heads on them yet. It's been 2 weeks now and I'm concerned.

Here's a link to my pictures. Please take a look and tell me what you think.

my belief is that you had multiple retained hair fragments that caused your bumps. it is ashame that you did not get them out in a more timely fashion. bumps can persist up to 6 months after a procedure and often conincide with the growth of new hair. having 2 pimples at this late stage (4 months after a surgery) is not too bad.

as is stated these bumps are more common in oily scalps. do you have an oily scalp?

most likely the antibiotics and coritsone did not do you any good. they do not prevent or treat this condition.

it is our hope that the grafts were not buired too deep into your scalp. this could cause a problem with pitting later on.

try posting a photo of the treated area on our forum and i will try to comment on the results.

most likely you can have another procedure and you most likely will have good growth. it is still early to tell though. don't be impatient. wait for 8 months before you make any decision whether to have more work.

i doubt you have chronic inflamation since the problem is getting much better and is a very common short term condition that generally leaves no permanent pathology to the scalp.
