Dormant Grafts

Postby CS305 » Thu Sep 09, 2010 10:41 pm

It's been 9 months since my CIT procedure. Not sure if some of the grafts have gown though. I don't see much difference. Is it a bit early to start worrying? I'm 3 months away from the 12 month time frame and not sure what to expect in 3 months time. Is it possible that the grafts that are out already are still very thin? In some areas it looks like the hairs are very close together from one another, yet the area still looks balding. Especially when the hair is wet.

I've started using normal head and shoulders bout a month ago. Not sure if I should go back to the post op shampoo again. Will it make a difference at this point? Also, is it ok that I drink protein shakes? Just wondering if I'm doing anything wrong.

It is not unusual for individuals who had pre-existing hair to be concerned about growth for up to 1 year following a procedure. If you did not have any hair, you will almost always see growth in 3 to 4 months. Rarely, someone does not have any hair and they do not see any growth. When I see them, it is amazing to see how much new hair is there, but some rare patients do not see it grow in. In other words, sometimes hair re-growth from a transplant is so subtle that patients do not even recognize that it grew in. The only way to convince them is to show them their before photos. then they are shocked because they don't recognize the guy without hair.

The best thing to do in your situation is look at it individually. We would want to take a look at your photos now and before the procedure. We would compare them and then discuss your personal situation with you. Give us a buzz and we'll get right on top of it. It is almost unheard of for growth to be poor in a virgin scalp. The only time that would occur would be if you had some underlying skin condition.
