Dr. Cole recently performed an unusual non-shaven CIT procedure. What made this procedure unique was that over 3,500 grafts were transplanted, via a non-shaven follicular unit extraction technique, on a patient with very long hair. Working with long hair is more difficult and time-consuming than working with very short or shaven hair. The long hair can get in the way, become tangled as it is moved, and also reduce the visibility of the hair growth angles. However, for some patients who are very attached to their long hair, a non-shaven CIT procedure may be the only route they are willing to take (particularly if they want to avoid the linear scar associated with strip surgery).
This was this patient’s first hair restoration procedure. Dr. Cole transplanted 3,527 grafts in total. The patient also opted to have ACell and PRP treatment in both his donor and recipient regions. Dr. Cole moved this patient’s hairline down, to a still-conservative position, and focused on adding coverage to the frontal third of his scalp. These photos show the patient’s scalp pre-surgery, his hair length, and the placement of the 3,500+ grafts.
