Receding hairline?

Postby Daniel » Fri Jul 16, 2010 6:51 pm

Okay, this thing has been bugging me for years. It's like my hairline is receding. I can't tell whether I've had this hairline since I was born or if I have lost my hair at an early age (I'm 17 now, I "discovered" my hairlline this way when I was about 15). I've always had long hair so I've never noticed anything.

From what I've heard your hairline is often determined from your mother's site of the family; My grandfather was not bald at all! He had very thick hair which I also have. Though, he did have the kind of hairline I have. My father was not bald but his hairline was receding and his hair was thinning.

Don't know if there's any females on this forum but do you think a receding hairline is considered unattractive? Turn-off?

Well, heres a picture of my harline. Keep in mind, I'm only 17 :/.

What do you think? Should I get a buzz cut and look 10 years older? Game is over for me :(.

Stupid hairline    ...

Hi Daniel,

It is actually a myth that genetic hair loss is determined by your mother’s side of the family. Researchers have since found that we can inherit hereditary hair loss from either our mother’s or father’s genes. It’s difficult to say whether your hair line is receding simply by looking at those photos. It’s certainly possible that you have a higher natural hairline and this definitely isn’t a bad thing. Many of the most attractive celebrities actually have high foreheads/hairlines.

However, if you are concerned that you may be experiencing male pattern baldness, you may want to visit a physician or dermatologist who will be able to assess whether your hair is thinning or shedding. If you are experiencing MPB, your physician may recommend you start medical therapy, once you turn 18, to stabilize potential further hair loss.

I don’t think it would hurt to try a buzz cut and don’t believe it would make you look ’10 years older’. If you don’t like the way it looks, you can simply grow it back out and be back where you started. However, buzzing your hair may restore your confidence, or at least help you to stop dwelling on your hair and the perceived flaw with your hairline.

Best wishes!
