Fall out after a hair transplant surgery

Postby forhair » Thu Jul 22, 2004 9:58 pm

I know u asked Dr Cole but i will put my 2 cents on that.
With strip Hair Transplant the average shading of FU is between 60-80%, and its differ from on patient to the other. If you going to use minoxidil 5% before and aspacially after the procedure it can take it as low as 20-50% fallout of FU. It is also depends on the patient's age, how big is the surgery,How long the grafts are out of the body and Etc...
As Sherrie motioned before, with FIT/FUE the chances of graft surviving after an hair transplant surgery before any cycle is much higher,no doubt.
In my case i've noticed that most of 2 hairs grafts deep behind the hairline are falling first, for some reason the singles are growing from the start. maybe it is because of a greater need of blood supply...i don't know for sure.
anyway, it is like that in my case but it can be different with other patient's.
The bottom line is that with the right hand of a good surgeon that have experience and good assistances, 95-100% of the grafts are gonna come back and make a homerun or a "goal" for the Europeans :)

hair loss after a hair transplant

Postby drcole » Thu Jul 22, 2004 11:05 pm

from my point of view, you can expect fall out 2 to 3 weeks after a procedure. sometimes it takes just a little bit longer. you can expect about 90% of hairs to fall out temporarily. you can expect full regrowth after 8 months to 12 months. I typically tell patinets to expect about 90% regrowth.

In FIT we often see much less fall out and much faster regrowth. This does not occur in all cases. certainly, i would like to know why and how to reduce the regrowth in all individuals. we feel that the decreaed time from graft removal to the re-implantation is why we get faster re-growth.

with FIT we average 2.49 hairs per graft. from strip we averaged 2.3 hairs per graft. The transection or injury rate in our hands is about this same. this means you can expect about better coverage from the same number of grafts from FIT.

we prefer to do FIT or FUE in our office. we feel it offers many potential advantages over strip surgery.

as you can see there are many opinions regarding re-growth and fall out rates. i am not a patient but i have seen many patients. forhair is a patient. he sess things from a much different perspective. i it one that is noteworthy.

I also agree with sherri and will add to her post that strip grafts sit in saline for up to 6 hours in some instance.
