Small bumps around Recepient area.

Postby majone » Thu Jun 11, 2009 1:57 pm

Hello to all! I'm an African American patient who had a hair transplant about 1 month ago. I am noticing small bumps around my transplant area. I was wondering what do I need to do? I do not want to hurt my grafts! Any suggestions?

Hi Majones,

I hope that it is safe to assume that all of your scabs have fallen off, and there is no redness from the procedure. Technically the redness could last up to a month, but hopefully that is a non-issue for you. The small bumps in a recipient area typically indicate that there are small hair fragments that need to exit the skin. In-grown hairs could also be the reason that you have bumps, but it will depend on how many bumps you have. The appearance of the bumps is also important to know because it can dictate what you should do to resolve them. How many bumps do you see and what is the color of them?

Well the bumps match my skin color. Most have went down because a Family health doctor prescribed an antibiotic for me. The doctor said I had a very small case of Follicitius. ( I hope I spelled it right) I hoping the antibiotic would not hurt my growth. I had 200 grafts placed in my temple areas.

Hi Majone,

I wouldn't worry about eh anti-biotic slowing down your growth, I have certainly never heard of anything like that. Presumably that anti-biotic can only be a good thing in your case as it is acting to prevent infection of your follicles, presumably the healthier they are the better.

Your prob better getting the views of some of the tecs or drs on this, but if your around the 2-3 month mark, your ht hairs are growing out, it might be that some are 'ingrowing'- just like if you had a wax and when the hairs start to grow out again you may get some pimples, these follicles have had a hard 3 months to be fair to them! From memory this phase only lasts a month or so.

That said you have a proper diagnosis from an MD dont you?

Take care
