Hello, on 5/11/2009 I had 200 grafts applied to my temple area. I have also been using the Biotin Spray for my scabs. On about the 7th day I started massaging my temples with baby shampoo. I noticed some scabs coming off. I wanted to know is this normal or should I have waited a little longer to start massaging. I am also an African American patient. Also another question 200 grafts equal about how many hairs?

I dont think you would do any harm using gentle massage on your recipient site after about a week, baby shampoo is generally recommended among the over the counter options, also I was advised to keep the recipient site moist- saline solution (salty water) is good for this. You could just dab with a soapy sponge if you were worried, but the grafts should be secure by now.

In terms of how many hairs, typically it would be between 1 and 4 actual hairs per follicular unit for Caucasians & Asians (you just say grafts in your post- I'm assuming & I really hope they were follicular units)- but I think for people with African genes you tend to have slightly more hairs per fu. That said a sensitive Dr should probably have put thinnish hair at the front of the hairline? Where did you go?

It is hard to estimate how many hairs are in 200 grafts...there can be 1,2,3,4,5 hairs per graft in different individuals. it can range from 200-400 and even more...

Scabs should fall off and it is good to help them by a gentle massage or rubbing with your finger tips (you must keep the area moist).

Hello, I would like to know would hair grafts be in danger on sunburn on a partly cloudy day? I'm 2 months post op.
