uk clincs

Postby stevieuk98 » Fri Jan 16, 2009 9:58 am

im 21 from N Ireland and thinking about having a hair transplant.
i can accept going bald maybe in my 30s or 40s but at 21 it shouldnt be affecting my life as much as it does. iv tried some loctions and potions to no real result.

problem is i cant seem to find any doctors in ireland , except for one with Norton clinc which only offer consoltations in dublin and operation in leeds,

i would prefare to see a few clincs to get all the information i need can anyone recomend anywhere in uk / ireland.

being 21 travling anywhere outsde uk is a money issue, my estimates say ill need all of my savings for the actual op and not the flights

my main concern is finding the right and best clinc that will give best results but i know outside uk is unrealistic at this time

any comments?

Hi Stevie,

I had my 1st ht in the UK at the Nobel Clinic and it was a disaster for me personally, I'm really not sure where in the UK I could honestly recommend. I would guess that Farjo has the best reputation. My rule of thumb would be turn down flat any clinic that wont answer your questions fully and personally, show you previous patients and offer references & testimonials, also on web sites disregard anyone using 'advanced micro grafting', its not advanced its shamefully out of date and will give you doll-plugs in a hairline. In the UK there is no legal requirement that a Dr carries out your HT, unlike I think the USA, so be 100% sure who is carrying out the work & what you are getting.

In my view the minimum you need to be looking for is follicular unit transplantation with microscopic dissection.

Regarding the cost issue, flights etc are expensive, and I know the pound is weak at the moment, but I think cosmetic surgery is expensive and generally of poor quality in the UK, I would really recommend looking overseas too, you can get transatlantic flights to the USA for under £300 at the moment and there are so many more very reputable Dr's to chose from than in the UK.

One more thing, however worried about your hairloss you are now please don't rush into doing 'what you can afford', a poor ht is so much worse than thinning hair- only go with a Dr your very confident in.

Good Luck

thanks for the reply i hadn't heard of Farjo before, ill check that out, lol don't worry iv no intention of rushing anything and the cost is only my second concern after the final results.

the advance micro grafting info was useful ill be weary of that if its mentioned
any other comments welcome and if anyone can recommend a good place or experience in UK much appreciated

Also, if your going to do short haul, I think one of Dr Cole's ex-students works out of Belgum, Dr Devroye (Sp?), who I think is well regarded, I know Leeds is nice but I think Brussels might have the edge!!

Anyhow good luck!!

Too young for hair transplant surgery

stevieuk98, The right clinic for you considering your young age is the clinic that will be responsible enough to tell you to wait a few years so that your hair loss will be more defined.
You should read these article to get a clue:
* HAIR RESTORATION IN THE YOUNG PATIENT
* Making Informed Choices
* PATIENT EVALUATION
