4.5 months post op, anxious

Postby tincup911 » Tue Oct 21, 2008 9:24 am

On June 11th I had a strip with 2000 grafts and so far growth is pretty sparse. I was told not to get hot and sweaty after the procedure but two days after the procedure I was coaching my son's baseball team on a hot night and got very hot and sweaty. Could this have harmed any of the grafts? I didn't notice any popped grafts or bleeding or anything. Also 11 days after I rubbed off some the crusts. Could these things have done any damage or am I just being impatient? Thanks.

Hi Tincup, too early to judge...most patients start to see results at 6-12 months after surgery. who did your procedure?

I know how you feel but again you should hold your horses and be patient because it is too early to judge.
there are some exceptional patients that experience very early growth but that is not the case with most patients...actually the fact that you do notice some growth is encouraging :)

I don't think that a hot night is going to harm your grafts...direct sunlight is a major threat to your grafts and should be avoided at list 3 months after surgery (some recommend even 6 months).
So best is always wear a baseball hat and sunscreen.
There is no risk from rubbing the hair after 11 days or even after 2 days as long as you don't scratch them with your nails.
I think you are safe.
If you feel very concerned i advise you to visit the doctor who performed your hair transplant surgery to look at your progress.

Thanks. I didn't use my fingernails at all. From reading some other threads it seems pretty common for people to be a little paranoid after a procedure. Patience seems to be the key.

Now at 6 months and not looking much better. The left side of my head isn't bad except for a nickel size area with no growth behind the hairline.
I think this are may have been missed as there was no growth in the first few weeks either. The middle and right sides of my head has poor density compared to the left. I'm not very happy with my results thus far.

Hi Tincup911,

I am sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with the outcome thus far. I can understand your frustration but you should count yourself as "lucky" as long as your growth looks natural. At 6 months, about 40% to 50% of the growth should be achieved. The newly transplanted follicles will have shorter anagen hairs (actively growing) coming out of them. Give it more time and it should get better in time.

thanks for the reassurance. I wish I had found these forums before moving forward. I would have gone to one of the renowned surgeons.
