Any thoughts on Acell?

Didn't know if this had been discussed, but supposedly it's being released for human use soon. Is Dr. Cole interested in trying it to plug extraction holes?

Acell- Donor hair re-growth

Postby forhair » Mon Jul 21, 2008 8:52 am

We're following the product closely. We really want to give it a try. Currently it is not approved for use on humans. It is possible that it will re-grow the hair in the donor area after we remove the grafts. Of course this is only a hypothesis.

Man, that would basically make everyone a candidate for a HT. We can only hope at this point. Some guys will never be in there late or early thirties again so let 'em have hair. The recently posted megasession is an example of what results means to each person. He couldn't wait and neither will I.

Well, it's apparently ready for release as of today. Here's hoping.

I know that Dr. Jones already tried acell on a patient..in my opinion it is not very promising:

ACELL

Postby drcole » Mon Feb 02, 2009 12:33 pm

ACELL is currently unavailable in the USA except for use on animals. Dr. Mwamba works in Europe and he is licensed to practice medicine in Europe. He is not licensed to practice medicine in the USA. He was only a surgery tech when he worked for me in the USA.

Dr. Mwamba may be trying ACELL. He has not discussed his protocol with me. I'll ask him the next time I see him. We usually see one another about once a month. He may be able to use ACELL in Europe. I'm not certain about their protocols and the restrictions on products that are not FDA approved for humans in Europe.

you need stem cells to produce growth. i'm not certain that ACELL will work, but i would love to try it myself if it does get FDA approval for use in humans here in the USA.

My hopes for Acell have always been more modest than a lot of folks who've commented on various forums:

1. I hoped that it would allow my current donor scars to be cut out and the area to heal with no (or virtually no) scars.

2. I hoped that it would cause the recipient area to heal more quickly and with less redness (I have enough pink in my skin to cause the post-procedure redness/pinkness to hang around a while).

Number 2 is just because I want to be able to heal as quickly as possible after future CITs, but my real CONCERN is that I find a way to get to the point where I can buzz my hair pretty close (which downplays hairloss). My only option at present is to graft into the scars, but the idea of using valuable donor hair for that drives me nuts! :^) So, I was really hoping Acell would allow for scarless excision...and, I suppose, it still might. But, at the rate it's moving forward, I doubt I'll wait and find out.
