you should use medications first and think about transplants second. you want to see how you respond to medications prior to embarking on a hair transplant pathway. this is very important when you are in your 20s. of course it is also important to look at your family history of hair loss. this is a valuable source of information regarding your future loss. it is a good sign that there is no family history of loss at this time.
temple hair restoration is very simple. this may be only the beginning of your hair loss though. this is why it is important to take medications. you want to stall or slow the hair loss process. when you first begin the medications you can see an increase in hair loss initially. this is a good sign actually becasue it means you are probably responding. the next thing you see is a slow down of your hair shedding. (you may not see an increaseed loss and this does not mean you are not a responder) I like Propecia over the topicals though there are many opinions regarding all of them. some patients do not like the idea of taking propecia. most do not re-grow hair on the medications. this is not why you take them. you take them to slow your hair loss. this has significant long term implications on your treatment regimen.
i would recomend the medications for one year. next summer would be the best time for you to contemplate a transplant. i know it is important to get your hair back now, but waiting never hurts. i can assure you that our techniques will be improved over next year. i do not recomend strip surgery for any one under age 35 at this time if they have never had a previous hair transplant.
it is very normal for others to feel you do not need a hair transplant. i am glad that others feel this way becasue it means your loss is limited right now. it is also not important what others think. what is important is what you think. prior to starting on medications, it might be a good idea for us to take a good look at you to confirm that you have hair loss that will repsond to treatment or should be treated. A large fore head may be all that you have. this can be treated with hair transplants too, but we should be very careful. if you do not have androgenic alopecia, you certainly do not want to commit to medicatons that treat it. a photo sometimes is beneficial. in the interim you can send one to us.
thanks for your interest. i will be happy to see you in consultation. i will be in new orleans in september. if you can't wait, we will be happy to see you in Atlnata.
