Patchy Hair Loss

Postby shedding » Fri Mar 21, 2008 12:28 am

I wanted a clearer understanding on what causes patchy hair loss.

I read this article:
The causes of patchy hair loss are not genetic and are not necessarily affected by environmental factors, either. Female patchy hair loss is just as common as instances found in male patients. One might start out experiencing this type of hair loss in one area of the body only to find after time that the condition has healed and left the area only to move to another area of the body.

So what are the causes of patchy hair loss? Some illnesses may cause this embarrassing condition, especially those that last for a period of six months or more. Fungal infections such as ringworm may also contribute to patchy hair loss, especially at the area of infection. (easyhairgrowth com)

But is this accurate? Can it be as simple as the result of illness or a fungal infection? What else could it be?

The easyhairgrowth article also said that patchy hair loss is rare, not genetic and can happen anywhere on the body.

So if a fungal problem is the case, then from there are you more predisposed to balding? Will you necessarily have a problem later on because your body reacted this way to an illness?

Patchy hair loss could even be caused from bacterial infections as well. Usually a biopsy would be recommended as a test to determine the cause of this hair loss condition. It is accurate to say that alopecia areata (patchy hair loss) can be caused from fungal conditions or bacterial conditions and isn't necessarily genetic.

Anyone experiencing hair loss is more than welcome to have a free consultation with our doctor. Click on this link to upload photos: http://www.forhair.com/contact_page.htm or email: michelle@forhair.com

Hi, I read an article about patcy hair loss, which I thought was quite good (came across the article via stumble upon). it is at understand hair loss organization. They have some good and short info on hair loss causes and hair loss prevention, but no doctor advise available there I think.
Good luck :D

No, but one in my family has. The article I read was at http://www.understandhairloss.org which seems to be a good info site about hair loss - like their big directory
( http://www.understandhairloss.org/hair- ... geons.html ) of hair doctors, but noticed Dr Cole was not there - will write them an email to see why he is not included or if he could be included...
