Shampoo frustration

How can you tell which shampoo is making your hair loss worse? I mean before it does significant damage?

Does it simply not make your hair feel good regardless? Does it get brittle and dry before hand?

I read this at easyhairtgrowth dot com
"Do you need a hair growth product?"

Some shampoos contain harsh chemicals and may make your hair loss problems worse, especially if you shampoo frequently. Your local pharmacy should have a section of hair growth products for men as well as for women. In this section you'll find shampoos specifically designed to promote the growth of healthy hair.

But is it constantly a battle of trial and error? How long do you try a shampoo for before you give it up? I'd just like to not have to have major hair loss while I find the right one.

So depending on where hair loss is, and how it is falling out makes a difference in the shampoo? I thought it fell out just depending on the person, not that it's a specific type of hair loss.

A friend of mine is pregnant and losing her hair. But I didn't pay attention as to how it was falling out we just assumed it was due to pregnancy. But it kept getting thinner and thinner. While pregnant she read this:

Because your hair is made of protein, a shampoo for hair growth will include high levels of amino acids. The anti-oxidants found in many shampoos will aid in promoting healthy hair follicles. Plant botanicals, combined with vitamins and minerals will foster the development of a healthy scalp while contributing to a beautiful appearance.

Notice that the main ingredients mentioned above are not chemical, but natural. Natural ingredients make the best hair growth shampoo for women suffering from postpartum symptoms or for those who have already caused considerable damage by overusing chemicals. In some cases, individuals who are genetically predisposed to hair loss may use natural shampoos as a preventative measure even if they have not yet experience symptoms of hair loss.[article quoted from easyhairgrowth dot com]

So would this be good advice for her but would be completely different for my husband's receding hair line?

I read the same article at easyhairgrowth. There are 3 stages to hair growth:

1) Anagen: that is when the hair is actually growing, and protein and keratin which is the growth stage of the hair growth cycle. During this stage protein and keratin are produced continually for 4 to 6 years. Anagen hair represents 90% of the hair on your head at any given time.

(parts of this info I got from another natural hair loss treatment site, not selling their stuff)

2) Then the catagen stage starts and the hair stops growing for 2 to 3 weeks.

3) Telogen is the "resting stage".

Many shampoos could help push resting hairs out of the way, this is not always great to hear but it happens. There is significant data that suggests that some shampoos can help this process of stimulating hair growth which would mean that telogen hairs are put out of the way. Also shampoos with anagen stimulators can help extend the duration of the anagen phase and allows anagen hairs to be active for a longer period of time. No one actually knows how many of these hair cycle revolutions they are given so it is a great idea to extend the anagen cycle. Always remember that one should have more than one product in a regimen.

As far as my experience concern, shampoos are for external use. They may can soften and make your hair manageable. Hair loss is a internal problem. Shampoos can not correct internal problems. Propecia finasteride is the right solution. Keep it up. I'm using Propecia since last year and a half and today I have 80% improvement in my hair loss.

Hi Shedding, I recently read your post and some of the answers. As an experienced stylist, I have been seeing more and more clients, who are wondering if there is a good shampoo to use that doesn't have the harsh chemicals found in so many products.

Your hair does not need to fee either brittle or dry before hand and if it does, you need to change shampoo NOW!

I recommend my clients explore the benefits of the Crew system for [url=http://hairloss.americancrew.com/products/the-system]hair loss treament[/http://hairloss.americancrew.com/products/the-system] . I hope my delay in responding has not been too late

Hello
I m not really looking for fancy salon brand/organic shampoos mostly because I wash my hair everyday, so I wouldn't want to spend too much. I've been using herbal essences for a LONG time, but I've heard that it's bad for your hair? My hair is thick and long. I want it to be soft, shiny, etc. Also, to stay thick.
Thanks!

Only the roots of hair are actually alive, while the visible part of hair is dead tissue, and therefore unable to heal itself.

I cant vouch for any shampoo stopping hairloss, but I really like the "Jason" range of shampoos, they do an 84% aole vera one which is very very gentle & a good complement for some of the more aggressive alcohol based hairloss treatments like minox etc that can dry or irritate the scalp
