Body hair transplants: news in the forum

It is a difficult thing to live with hair loss. Every day you must look in the mirror and face the frustration. It is understandable for you to desire answers to important questions regarding new technology.

Body hair transplantation is a new field technically. The specific details are still unknown. Due to the telogen durations of body hair, that are often over 2 years, it may be a long time before we can give you these details. Therefore, i encourage anyone considering body hair to use the body hair as a last resort. It should not be considered factor in electing to begin your first hair transplant procedure. It is something for those who are otherwise beyond hope. It is primarily for "victims" of hair surgery rather than new cases. My adivice is to use scalp hair first. Body hair is also a good source for specialty cases such as burns to the body, scars on the extremities, chest and pubic hair. Body hair is very exciting and offers great potential. It is the most interesting new development in the field of hair restoration surgery. It is only natural for you to be inquisitive.

Our patient was supposed to get another procedure in late May. I spoke with him by phone in early May. At that time he said he was doing great, that he was very happy, and that he saw no reason to get another procedure at this time. Thus, he cancelled his procedure. Frankly, this is very positive. Anytime we can eliminate the need for additional procedures with a single procedure, I consider this a triumph. He could get more work in the front, but this is looking very good already from the 1000 scalp grafts we move to the frontal hair line. I am against lowering his hairline further at this time, but will consider it perhaps in October 2004 or later. I feel the crown area needs perhaps 2 years to mature prior to embarking on another procedure. Like a fine wine the grafts must have ample opportunity to mature. He is quite happy with the state of improvement in the front and the back.

I feel it is best for anyone considering body hair transplants to be patient. Soon we will have plenty of data for you. If you cannot wait, all i can say is that it does grow. Typically 50% of it will grow the first year. I have no idea if the other 50% will grow, but there is no reason to expect otherwise. Of course we have seen much more than 50% grow withing a few months in isolated cases.

we've seen one chest hair up to 7 cm long (double the length on the chest). we've seen leg hairs that grow 4 times their length on the leg.

over the next two years, i expect to see many more amazing things with body hair.

we are going to stimulate these hairs with growth serums too. should be exciting.
