Donor after FIT/CIT harvesting

Postby CITness » Thu Oct 04, 2007 9:52 am

We performed on this darker complexioned patient more than 1300+ FIT grafts from the scalp and 1000+ body FIT grafts from the chest. The patient has a very thin donor area and some scars on his donor over the back of his head. It is nearly impossible to take grafts with a strip procedure. This patient's only solution was to do a follicular isolation technique procedure with his body hair. Fortunately, he had a viable source of chest hair to add coverage to his scalp. His healing very well after just approx. 45 days and is expected to be better in weeks to come.

I would agree that healing in the case is remarkable but why is it that some other clinics seem not to perform BHT or have no results at all...

BHT growth is still unknown in terms of percentage and timing. It varies a lot from patient to patient. Body hair does not cover as well as scalp hair. BHT is a great alternative solution when we can not get scalp hairs. Especially for repair cases where the donor area has been depleted or for filling when someone has an extended hair loss.

It may grow slowly and takes up to two years before full maturation (i.e. get the maximum yield and also the maximum diameter of the hair shaft and shiny color of the hairs).

We have noticed the body hair takes the scalp characteristics. However, the scalp hairs have more value. They have more hairs per graft in average and a better shaft diameter. BHT should be used only when the donor area is limited.
