The answer to this question is open...I don't really know if taking finasteride 2 weeks before the surgery can really help you but i know it will not hurt you, Its up to you.
I can definitely recommend you to take it after the surgery with Dr cole's instructions, It will boost your growth process, keep you from having shock loss and maintain any further hair loss.

It is common for you to experience some hair shedding a few months after you start taking propecia or use rogaine. this is an indication that you are responding to the propecia.

there is no data to suggest that taking propecia will help your grafts grow faster or prevent shock loss. certainly it does stimulate anagen. this may help you over come shock loss quicker or perhaps even prevent it. one study did show that propecia plus hair transplants results in a better long term result than having a hair transplant without taking propecia.

therefore, we highly recomend propecia to all male patients concerned about their hair loss. we mainly recomend it to help you maintain your hair. we do not believe it very effective at growing new hair. by stimulating anagen and perhaps lengthing anagen, it keeps more hair on top of you head and less hair in the shower and pillow. we feel the fda made a mistake in calling it a product that re-grows hair.

we don't know of any good studies looking at dr. proctor's product. we are aware of it though and know many people who have tried it.
