Italian Patient Update – scalp/bht results pictures

The Italian Patient started with NW 6 class of hair loss. Dr. Cole transplanted 12,500 grafts over three sessions. The body hair was mainly placed in the vertex of the crown, but also helped to thicken the frontal third. The combination of FIT scalp harvesting and Dr. Cole’s patented FIT farming technique helps to produce a donor result that allows the patient to wear his hair very short in the back, even after more than 5800 grafts are harvested.

The totals are:
5843 scalp hair grafts
3559 BHT grafts
3077 FIT farming grafts

Here are his most recent pictures. It has only been 6 months since his last procedure, so he still has some growing to do! He can look forward to more scalp hair growing in and maturing, and later his body hair will grow in. We will keep you updated as he sends us more pictures.

What were the patients donor hair characteristics? Will his coverage of hair improve significantly within the next few months, making a drastic difference? Or will it only improve slightly more?

This patient's donor hair has a slight wave, medium caliber, and average density.

Over the next few months, there will be slight improvement, but over the next year, the thickening should be more noticeable as the body hairs mature.

i always wonder how is his progress, considering that the guy was almost totally bald and had just a few hairs in the middle the results are super.
it will be very interesting to see the BHT on the crown, from these photos it seems that he got some good coverage there too.
jessica, how long is it postop bht?

Crown photos are coming up!

This patient had three sessions. The first session was in 2004, where 700 body hair grafts were placed in the crown.

The second session was in 2005, and we placed over 3000 body hairs in the crown and a light density all over the frontal third and middle to help thicken them. At this time, the body hairs from this session have almost all grown in. Most of them have thickened and matured, but there still can be maturation from this group over the next few months.

The third session was in December of 2006. Body hairs were again placed in the crown and throughout the frontal third and middle. These body hairs are still coming in. We will be able to see them add thickness over the next year and a half.

During the second and third sessions we also used body hair for FIT farming which is where a body hair is placed into the donor extraction sites of the scalp. Over 5800 scalp grafts were extracted from the donor over these three sessions, and more then 50% of the extraction sites were allowed to heal with a body hair graft in them. The FIT farming has really made the difference in how this patient can style his hair in the back.

Dr. Cole continues to increase the options available for people with class 6 hair loss. I'll keep you updated on the developments! 8)

B2H, you asked for it :) , here are the BHT crown progress photos that Jessica posted:

BHT Crown Results Pictures

When patients have advanced hair loss, there is not enough available scalp donor hair to cover the entire bald area. Many times, the goal is to reestablish the hairline and frontal third because there is just not enough scalp hair left to cover the crown. Here is a patient who used body hair in combination with scalp hair in order to extend his available donor resources and attain his hair transplant goals. The body hair was placed mostly in the crown over the course of a few sessions. The pictures below show the progress thus far.

Body hair transplant

Postby drcole » Mon Aug 06, 2007 9:24 pm

He has an abundance of body hair. He is quite fortunate in this. Many people have far more body hair than one might expect. Body hair does not cover as well as scalp hair. it is far more subtle. It seems to do a very good job in producing a very nice cosmetic result in the donor area from FIT extraction sites. When you compare donor sites that were not FIT farmed with those that were FIT farmed, the benefits of FIT farming become far more apparent in many individuals by maintaining donor circulation, hair, and pigment. The subtle differences from FIT farming are quite beneficial to the overall cosmetic result in our evaluations. It does require more work, however for the patient. This is the trade off.

It is important to recognize that many people want to limit the amount of scalp hair removed. FIT Farming offers these individuals additional alternatives and solutions to their donor dilemmas.

the bht on the crown is a nice filler...dr. cole, do you think that a combination of fit+bht on the crown is more effective than just fit?
