it has been 5 weeks since my surgery, my donor area is completely healed and unnoticable at all, my reciepent are is red and blotch and still is very tender? why is it still like this? I dont think it is infected what could it be? thanks again

Hey Rowdyone....I had my HT by Dr. Cole the first week of May also and I've got the same issue. I believe most people will still have a tender and red donor area for many weeks after the HT. I just shaved my head to the skin yesterday and the redness is more noticible because the rest of my head is my normal skintone. Bottom line is, I believe it's the normal progression. But let an IHTI person confirm it.

It is very normal to have a red recipient area after a procedure. This redness gradually fades over a 3 month period. The reason for the redness that fades is that the body increases the blood flow to the recipient area in an effort to improve the healing process. Many cells are dispensed by the body in reaction to the local trauma. These cells do their jobs in the healing process. Unfortunately, the body tends to over react and sends more than is necessary. This is why it turns pink or red. Hair Cycle products were created to help minimize the redness and reduce the inflamation. Most people who use them state that the they redness is less and dissipates faster with the use of Hair Cycle products. they do not completely eliminate the redness, however.

It is not common to have prolonged tenderness in the recipient area. In fact, if you have a strip procedure, there is so much pain from the strip donor area, that you will not feel the recipient area at all. If you have a FIT procedure, there is so little pain in the donor area, that we have noted that more individuals state that the recipient area is a little sore or tender the next day. we have not received reports of prolonged tenderness.

as long as you are not having heat, pus, drainage, and increasing tenderness to touch over time, their most likely is nothing serious going on. sometimes when the hair is beginning to grow, it will form ingrown hairs that resemble pimples. These will resolve by popping them.

I've never seen an infection from hair transplant surgery in over 15 years of doing them. If your symptoms concern you, do not hesitate to contact us. Serious problems are so uncommon that I've never personally had any in my hair restoration patients.

It is not common to have residual redness or pain in the donor area. In over 1000 FIT procedures, I have heard of 2 cases of donor tenderness for several months. This very low percentage leads me to feel that some individuals may be overly sensitive and may actually be feeling pain that is not really there. This sort of imaginary pain does occur and eventually does resolve on its own.
