Here's what I use now:

Proscar - 1.25mg once per day (been on for about 8 years)

Rogaine twice a day (been on for about 9 years)

HairMax LaserComb 3 times a week (been using about 2 months)

HairCycle shampoo and conditioner daily (been using about 1 month)

Should I add Nizoral 1% or 2% to the mix? If so, how often do I use it?

Any other suggestions Dr. Cole?

i would use nizoral shampoo 1% or 2% twice a week. shampoo in, leave on 5 minutes, then rinse. use haircycle 5 days a week. also you might consider avodart. it works faster than propecia and does a better job of growing hair.

Do I replace the 1.25mg tablet of Proscar with one 0.5mg softgel capsule Avodart?

Thanks,
Brian

well that's a tough question simply because 1.25 mg of proscar is alot less expensive than 0.5 mg of avodart or at least i assume it is.

i did speak to a DEA agent this past week about prescriptions drugs that are available generically. he said many of them are real imitations, but you simply do not know for sure what you are getting. he said sometimes what you take is not the real thing and it might even be harmful to you. He also said that storage and mixing systems for some of these drugs makes them unfit for human consumption and potentially very harmful. i mention this because you can find generic propecia online, but it is not from Merck. It is from people you do not know and you have no idea what you are taking.

Drcole,

whats the difference between Propecia and Avodart? I thought that Propecia is the best on the market to actually stop Testosterone from forming DHT? how does avodart do a better job in bringing out new hair?

thanks

Good question

there are two types of 5 alpha reductase (type 1 and type 2). this is the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT. Propecia blocks type 2 enzyme. Avodart blocks both type and and type 2. It is propecia on steroids. i would start with propecia and see how that works for you. if you are in crisis mode, you can go ahead and start with avodart. avodart works better and it also works much faster.

How is the side effects of avodart in comparison to propecia? Does it decrease the Libido even more? and how much testing has been done on avodart and is it FDA approved?

Thanks
