Hair transplant surgery without propecia ?

Postby apgr » Wed Oct 18, 2006 3:47 am

i have read a lot about propecia , and i have desided that i do not want to
take this drug . My progress of hairloss is steady ,but not dramatic . Can
i have the procedure ,but not ever take the propecia pill or generally finasteride? I mean i know that my progress will continue ,but i prefer
not to take it .Is the procedure worthy even without propecia ?

propecia for hair loss

Postby drcole » Wed Oct 18, 2006 6:26 pm

you are not alone. there are many who do not ever take propecia. they do not like to put drugs in their system. this is a personal decision. when you do not take propecia, you might consider topicals such as minoxidil, nizoral shampoo, hair cycle shampoo, which all prolong the anagen cycle meaning you will have more hair on your head and less on your pillow. only hair cycle is all natural ingredients. the other two are chemicals. also consider saw palmetto, a natural herb for hair loss.

thanks dr Cole ,saw palmetto i have read many times , from your experience patients who use this , have positive feedback ?
Is there a 'topical' propecia regimen ? Something that can topically reduce the levels of dht(if i write it well ) .I think i read somewhere that there was a plan for that .

medical therapy for hair loss

Postby drcole » Thu Oct 19, 2006 11:18 am

i have not seen any topical propecia.

there is topical saw palmetto. it is in the hair cycle line.

there have been no studies comparing propecia to saw palmetto for hair loss. there was a study comparing proscar to saw palmetto for an enlarged prostate. the study showed that saw palmetto was equally effective.

many people feel that topical spironolactone is a very good male hormone reducing therapy. you do not want to take this orally because you will grow a luscious set of breasts that would be the envy of your girlfriends.
