Can full crown restoration be completed with just BHT? Are there any results? Is this even recommended or normally better to blend scalp and BHT when donor sources are getting low? I am a new member to this forum and have seen a lot of talk about BHT and I am interested in learn more.

Timmy,

Dr. Cole always says that scalp hair is King. With that said, there is still a great application for BHT. Some patients have amazing results with BHT, but overall it is primarily used as "filler" hair in FIT farming and combined with scalp hair. Still, BHT really has opened up a whole new world for many individuals who have exhausted their donor supply.

Body hair can be used to fill in a crown. If you have scalp hair, you should use this first. If you have a limited supply of scalp hair, you have limted options. you can try medications, you can do nothing, or you can try body hair. Body hair does work. One of the keys is to transplant at a lower density first and then gradually fill in every 6 to 12 months. Start with a density of 20 to 30 grafts per sq. cm and begin with anagen hair. In order to locate anagen hairs, it is important to wet shave about 4 to 5 days prior to a procedure. Wet shaving is shaving with a razor, water, and shaving cream like you would your beard. The anagen hairs are actively growing hairs. In order locate them, you wet shave. The active growing hairs will get longer over the ensuing 4 to 5 days. The resting (telogen) hairs will stay short.

Body hair results do seem to vary from one person and from one donor source to another. In some people back hairs may grow first and give bettter coverage while in others the chest or leg hair may do better. Leg and thigh hair works well along with abdominal hair.

Some individuals have completely filled their crowns with body hair. Again, the results seem variable in some people. This is not because the hair will not grow. It is because in some the yeild is only 40% and the hair starts out finer.

It is also important to transplant as many two hair and three hair body hair grafts as possible as these will provide better coverage over time.

good luck.
