I can give you my respective as someone who had a wig and took it off.
Hair loss started to accelerate during the army, by age 22 i was norwood 3.
When i was 26 i decided to check the wig option, someone recommended me a guy that does a good job, I went to his place and i decided to give it a try knowing that in the worst case i can take it off...well, it is like cigarettes....you try it and then can be addictate to it the rest of your life. i was with a wig for 7 years.
To tell you that i'm sorry for these years, no...i had a wonderful time. i was looking very good with this hair piece and i got a lot of confident. I had much more success with the girls but all along i experience a lot of problems, some of them were very bad.
I will count you the downsides of having a hair piece, they will not mention this in most hair replacement clinics:
1. these hair pieces are not permanent and they are loosing hair, usualy after 3 months!
Then you need to buy another piece.
2. you need to visit the clinic at list once in 2 weeks (if it is hot weather the glue can come off faster) to put the hair piece with new glue and style it.
every visit like this can cost you around 50-200$ depends on the provider.
3. every morning it can take hours to style the hair and sometimes when you are in a hurry it can be very frustrating.
4. after a while the hair piece is loosing color and the hair becomes very dry (it's not live hair) and you will have to buy a new hair piece.
5. You aways have this fake feeling...it is not your hair!
6. you always afraid that someone will take it off by puling it (girlfriend...ext)
7. it is very hard to swim with an hair piece, it can take off the glue and fall especially in salt water.
8. playing soccer and basketball is also a risk, specially football
9. you alway suspecting that someone will notice that you have a wig (and some people can detect it (like me)
10. You can't be in the wind without messing you hair!!!
When driving in a car, i remember always asking to close the windows.
As you can see, a lot of downsides. after 7 years i decided that it is enough and had the courage to take it off, i made a special ceremony and throw it to the garbage...you have no idea how happy i was that day!
i had my hair transplant surgery with Dr. Cole and my hair is not as dense as with the wig, but it is mine! and it is looking so natural...
i can go to swim and blow my hair in the wind and all my confidence is back plus extra.
I recommend to wear a wig only for guys that are not a good candidates for hair transplant surgery or don't want to shave their head. |
