Propecia can cause a build up of tissue in the breast. it is not known to make your weight increase or to cause fatty tissue build up.
Tissue in the breast is extremly uncommon. I have seen only a rare case and it repsonds to ceasing to take propecia. It occurs becasue there is a relationship between the formation of estrogen, testosterone, and DHT. if you reduce the formation of DHT, there will be more testosterone. Testosterone can change into Estrogen and Estrogen can change into Testosterone. Estrogen is a female hormone. Every male has some Estrogen on board. If estrogen levels increase, this can cause a very small amount of breast tissue to form in a man. This is termed gynecomastia. It occurs more commonly in males undergoing puberty because testosterone levels begin to rise. As they do, estrogen levels can increase causing a nodule in the breast to form. Don't think you will develop large femal breasts. this will not occur. you can develop a small nodule though. if you do develop this, you should stop taking propecia.
stoping the propecia has reversed the nodule formation in every man that i have heard developed the nodule. Again this is very uncommon. in fact it is so uncommon that it is not listed in the side affect profile for propecia. as i recall it is listed in the side affect profile for Avodart, which is far more effective at reducing DHT levels. This means that testosterone levels and estrogen levels might increse even further on Avodart. |
