Dr. Cole,

You're right about that. If an FIT procedure yields similar results to a strip procedure that requires more grafts, it's more practical to go with the FIT procedure because at the end at least you won't have a permanent linear scar on you donor area. I think that no one should be burdened with the reality of having a linear scar because the whole idea of having a hair transplant procedure in the first place is to gain a fuller head of hair without anyone noticing that the procedure was done. I'm suprised of how great my results have been so far and it has only been 9 months.

This is all very true. in a long term study of 107,000 grafts measuring the number of hairs in a graft from strip harvesting and microscopic dissection of the strip, it was found that the average graft contains 2.03 hairs. In a study involving over 1 million grafts by FIT it was found that FIT grafts contain 2.48 hairs on an average. That's a huge difference. If you add to it that FIT grafts are typically placed within an hour of removal while strip grafts often remain in a holding solution for over 5 hours, you can begin to see why FIT results exceed strip results. FIT is especially important when we remove white or gray hair. In this instance, the hairs lack pigment. These clear hairs are not visible in the subcutaneous fat. Therefore, it is impossible to see the hairs when you dissect them even under a microscope. FIT allows for a much higher yield and a much lower transection or injury rate to white hairs. FIT is the method of choice with white hair if you want the highest yield from your procedure.
