Re: patchy results?

Seven months out is still quite early to evaluate the final result so try not to stress yourself out. You can still expect a good amount of growth, thickening and maturing of the hair. You really want to give it a full year before you assess the outcome of your hair transplant. If at that point you ...

Re: Question about Solar damage.

I would not worry too much about incidental sun exposure but it never hurts to take precautions. The Hair Cycle Hair Spray is actually a good option because it protects your hair and scalp from solar damage. It's actually a very light-feeling product and will not give you an overly 'wet' or 'crunchy...

Re: Donor area treated with CIT+PRP and Acell

The delivery of ACell has actually posed one of the greatest challenges for us. Until recently, ACell was only available as a slightly granular powder- which was difficult to administer to the donor site. We're now purchasing a finer powder which makes application easier but Dr. Cole is currently in...

Re: Power Extractor benefits?

I would say that the primary benefits of the power extractor are the unparalleled speed and safety with which Dr. Cole can extract follicular units. The average transection rate is below 3.7% and a less than one hair per one hundred difference in Dr. Cole's manual transection rate (which is already ...

Re: Shampoo and Growth

You should certainly see some more growth in the next few months and it would be great if you could share some of your progress photos. I would certainly recommend using Hair Cycle shampoo as your daily shampoo; as you mention, the anagen simulators may encourage your hair to enter the growth phase....

Re: 10 months post-op

As forhair said, I am very sorry you are disappointed with your results so far. However, I have to say that it doesn't appear that you had very much hair loss to begin with. The reason you may feel that the hairline work looks unnatural is that your native hair is so dense and the transplanted hair ...

Re: Sun Exposure

Yes, as the newly transplanted hair moves towards the surface, it's possible that excessive sun exposure could be harmful to the grafts. I spoke to Dr. Cole about this issue today and he said that he actually had a patient who went out on his boat about 3 month post-op, and did not cover his head or...

Re: Sun Exposure

Your grafts should be fine at this point, but it certainly doesn't hurt being cautious until your transplant has reached full maturity. A few minutes of incidental sun exposure (i.e. walking to the car, getting the mail) should not be any cause for concern but I would suggest your remain vigilant ab...

Dr. Cole's Patient Referral List

To all of our past patients: I am in the process of updating our patient referral list. This is an invaluable resource for prospective patients to speak or email directly with someone who has been in their shoes, and gone through with a hair restoration surgery procedure. If any of you would be inte...

Re: scarring

I will have to ask Dr. Cole specifically about the "Scar Fade" product you mentioned but he does recommend two specific products which promote quick healing and minimize any type of surgical scarring: Hair Cycle Post Biotin Spray and Hair Cycle Post Surgical Gel. The Biotin Spray should be...

Re: Acell / PRP and CIT Transplant Results

Glad to hear you are seeing notable progress already! It's always interesting to read detailed updates from patients, particularly those who have had the, relatively new, ACell and PRP therapies. I'd also be very interested in seeing some progress photos if you feel comfortable posting!

Re: Receding hairline?

Hi Daniel, It is actually a myth that genetic hair loss is determined by your mother’s side of the family. Researchers have since found that we can inherit hereditary hair loss from either our mother’s or father’s genes. It’s difficult to say whether your hair line is receding simply by looking at t...

Re: Question on donor sites

It's always a good idea to maintain the option of shaving your head in the future if your hair loss progresses and you do not wish to keep up with it surgically. This is one of the main reasons why FUE was invented and further refined via Dr. Cole's CIT procedure. All patients have different healing...

Re: Propecia taken every other day

Propecia is definitely a good first line of defense against hair loss. It seldom regrows hair but works well for stabilizing hair loss.

Re: Question on graft survival...

Although it' s difficult to say exactly why, sometimes redistributed hairs do not survive. This is something Dr. Cole tries to advise all patients of, and one of the considerations patients must make prior to deciding to proceed with repair work. If you primary goal is to achieve a more natural appe...

Tiger Woods & PRP

It has recently come to light that Tiger Woods has received Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment to help his injured knee. During a PRP procedure, the patient’s blood is drawn and put in a centrifuge to separate out platelet-containing plasma from the red blood cells. The concentrated solution is th...

Re: transplant hair into existing hair on thinning areas

If the existing hair is relatively dense and/or in good condition, most surgeons would prefer that you first try medical therapy for 6 to 12 months, to see if you can slow your hair loss or even restore some hair. If you and your doctor decide to proceed with a transplant, your doctor must be carefu...

Re: Hair loss and prostate cancer

There is some preliminary evidence that this is true. A recent study from the University of Washington School of Medicine indicates that men who experience hair loss before the age of 30 appear to have a 29-45% reduced risk of developing prostate cancer in their lifetime. Male pattern baldness is co...
