we are now at the 4 month mark of our anagen Vs. telogen body hair study. The two month mark had telogen hairs in the lead. This has changed. Anagen hairs are now well ahead of telogen hairs.
Our extraction protocol for body hair is to remove those grafts that will provide you the greatest level of coverage first. Second, we extract grafts that have anagen hairs. Our third choice is telogen hairs. This has been our intuitive plan for some time. We were quite suprised to see the telogen hairs take the early lead, but rationally, it made sense that some of the telogen hairs were emerging from telogen into a new anagen hairs. We hypothesized that the anagen hairs might be undergoing a longer exogen phase than telogen hairs that were in the exogen phase already. This does not seem to be the case. Anagen hairs are emerging rapidly and at the 4 month mark are have a yield of about 80%. Telogen hairs have a yield of about 20%. We will certainly keep you posted as the results materialize further.
this is the first study we know of looking at growth rates of telogen hairs. It is certainly exciting to see that telogen hairs do grow. It will be interesting to see how they progress over time. |
