Treatment Question

Hey Guys,

I week ago I have stopped all my topical and medical hair loss treatment. They just don’t seem to help me that much. I have used Propecia, Rogaine with (B6, Zinc solution), Trotonin, Azleic Acid, and copper peptides. But nothing seems to help. My ultimate goal is to get of treatment permanently after I have had a few hair transplant surgeries.

My question to you guys is:

1. Should I just stay on Propecia because all these topical solutions are just a hassle for me?

2. Should I stop all the treatment and just wait until I am ready for a HT surgery. What are some ways you guys deal with hairloss(treatment wise)?

What’s a smart choice at this case. BTW guys I am Norwood3 going on Norwood4 and diffusing all over the top of my head, so that the hair on top looks significantly thinner.

interesting question and not an easy one to answer because everyone has a different view and HL affects them differently. I too have almost stopped all treatment. My rationale behind this is the following. I realize that at the age of 25, I have agressive MPB. Basically the beginnings of a NW 3 in the traditional MPB recession. Right now more so at the front than the back, but equally losing ground. I come to realize that the treatments which are designed to help with HL can help some, but not all. More importantly, what degree of cosmetically significant results and at what cost finanially, emotionally, and physically. I gave propecia a solid run (little over a year) and things are worse now than ever. I feel that it has messed with my hormones as well and this in fact has been documented by my GP. My estrogen level was recorded two weeks ago at 193 and I believe the normal range ends around 130. My breasts are swollen. Minox seemed to work the best, but the inflammation and itching in my scalp was unberable at times. This experience might not be everyone's, but certainly it is mine and it is sincere. I have come to realize that the only treatment will be acceptance. And an important part in this for me is shvaing my head down which I plan to do in the near future. At this time, my donor hair is insifficient and HT's will not solve this problem. HM might make me rethink things, but at this point it is still only a dream without any documented results. I ask myself, what is the point of staying on these treatments if to only hold on to some ground on my vertex? Clearly with my frontal recession, it will be seen that I am balding and this ground will not change that view from myself or others. Taking HL into my control and accepting it and shaving my scalp appears to be the most logical answer to me...feedback is welcomed.

Damn Bradley,

Im sorry to hear that. One thing, don’t worry about your estrogen levels, they seem to be ok. The reason for your raised estrogen is because with the suppression of “alpha reluctese”(however you spell it), the DHT level become lower. The body raises the Testosterone levels, and with increased testosterone levels, the estrogen levels increase too, because testosterone converts into DHT and estrogen. There is not enough 5-alpha-reluctuse, so it converts more Testosterone to estrogen…

But Bradley, what about your body hair? Do you have enough body hair? It looks like I have been fortunate with body hair, my genes have not let me down all the way….

I think that I will get off all that stupid, pathetic treatment for hairloss and worry about more important things for now until I have enough money to transplant enough of my body hair so that I have never have to worry about hair loss again.

So you haven’t shaved your head yet? When I shaved mine, I went through a shock, because every time I looked in the mirror, it wasn’t me. That went on for about a year and a half until I decided that I will not let my hairloss ruin my life. Ever since that day, my hairloss has never affected me as bad as it did before. So yeah, you will have to face it, sooner or later, don’t try to run from it, just face it and handle it as soon as you can. You’ll be much happier after you have faced and “accepted” your hair loss

Good Luck
