| we have many different instruments and tools to remove the grafts. one of the tools we have developed allows us to dilate the donor area so that we can see the direction of hair growth, loosen around the follicles and then remove them. the instance here is one where there was considerable hair splay. some people have very straight hair and it goes straight in. others have more curl to their hair and as such the hair enters the scalp and the bulbs diverge from one another almost as if the hairs repulse one another like similar poles of a magnetic. when this occurs, we dilate the area so that we can follow the hair bulbs without damaging them. when skin is dilated in this manner, it takes a day or two to contract back, but it does contract back. there is no increased scarring with this technique. there will be an absence of follicular units in the donor area, however. no matter what instrument we use there will be an absence of follicular units in the donor area if they are removed. |
