i had a consult with one of Dr. Coles assoc's in DC. he suggested i have about 600 grafts using FIT to fill my hairline and receding temples.

a few weeks later i went to visit Dr. Berstein in NYC. he said that my density was not very good and recommended using a strip technique. i keep my hair pretty short so ive been hesitant to get the strip, but if one of the leading FIT experts says that the FIT is not ideal for me, what do i do? any thoughts???

ive thought about revisiting one of Dr. Coles assoc's the next time they were in DC but i keep on missing him.

the stats below come from my visit with Dr. Coles assoc.

Age.........................32
Class of Hair Loss....Class 2

Skin.........................Fair
Character

Thickness………….. Not noted
Density

Follicular Units……. 80 (80 average)
Scalp Laxity.............Average

what procedure do you want? that is the important decision.

Dr. Bernstein is a capable physician and a good strip practioner. i have no problem recomending him for a strip procedure. Recognize that he is not the only strip practioner out there. if you are going to consider a strip, you should also look at Dr. Wolf. I have rarely seen him recomend anything other than a strip procedure. I also would not recomend him for FUE because he does not perform much of it, i rarely see him recomend it, and i have not seen any of his results. He does not practice FIT, which is a far more advanced form of FUE.

the advantages to FIT over a strip are multiple. you must make that decision on your own, however. Ask yourself, do you want a permanent linear scar on the back of your head that brands you as a hair transplant patient. do you want a 1/2 inch chunck cut out of the back of your scalp.

i will be in DC later this month personally and i will be happy to meet with you. a low follicular density is all the reason in the world to NOT have a strip. with a lower density, you will require a longer strip for the same amount of hair and it is going to leave a longer scar. A follicular density of 80 is average. i will check it for you. Good luck with your decision. it is often very confusing.

Hi jeff301,

Please don't do a strip and save yourself from years of pain. I would never do one myself.

I must agree on that last post because with lower density comes a lower quantity and often quality of grafts by harvesting with a strip procedure.
