IHTI Forum Readers,

It has been fun and rewarding to watch the development of the IHTI Hair Loss Forum. Less than a year ago we had 400 users and we are thrilled to now see over 700 members. We hope to observe continual growth and participation from our users. It is crucial for those concerned about hair loss to have support group and a place to ask and answer questions. We would like to thank our active posters for their excellent input in forum discussions. We would also encourage those casual readers to take advantage of the boards and jump in with any questions or concerns they might have about hair loss or hair restoration options. We are happy to inform our forums members of our new monthly newsletter. This letter will present hot topics from the boards and news about hair restoration with IHTI.
We also would like to take the opportunity to call out to patients to present their results! It is tremendously important for prospective patients to have visual representations of what is possible with cutting edge follicular unit transplantation. The photos can be from the eyebrows and up. Any interested parties can e-mail photos by clicking on my nickname below:

density

Hair Transplant-General Forum
Hair Transplant Density

Density is a function of the incision size. There is a simple formula. The distance between the grafts in millimeters is equal to the a constant, 10.7, divided by the square root of the density in sq. cm. The distance between grafts at 80 per sq. cm is 1.12 mm. The diameter of a single hair is 0.42 mm on average. Two hairs average 0.8 mm and three hairs 1.2 mm. In order to pack 80 per sq. cm, you need to make very tiny incisions and place very small grafts that are aggressively trimmed. In other words, there is a trade off between trauma, size of the graft, the incision size, and the comfort of the fit. Is it acceptable to compress a graft too tightly? Does the yield go down? Is it better or worse to force a graft into an incision size that is too small? No one knows these answers. There are other concerns, as well. When doing body hair transplants, I am always amazed at how many new hairs show up in the same area that I picked clean the year before. There are always hairs that are very hard to see because they are early anagen hairs or exogen hairs that are so microscopic that you cannot see them with the naked eye. This occurs with scalp follicular units, as well. Aggressive trimming risks loosing these hairs and tossing them in the waste. Read Full Post

Avodart in male pattern hair loss

The treatment of androgenetic alopecia is not an FDA-approved indication for Avodart (dutasteride). Therefore, GlaxoSmithKline may not make recommendations on the sue of Avodart for this purpose.

A phase II multi-center, double blind, placebo-controlled study was conducted on 416 males with AGA , ages 21 to 45 years, to evaluate the dose response relationship of Avodart on hair growth. Repeated doses of Avodart (0.05 mg, 0.1mg, 0.5mg, and 2.5 mg daily) were compared to placebo for 6 months. Safety and tolerability of the varying dose of Avodart and fiansteride 5 mg daily compared with placebo were also investigated. .... Read More

Does any other notice something similar? I have already study the testing results of Glaxo...
I''ll keep you informed about the issue... Read More

Follicular Isolation Techniqe Forum

First FIT session and a few questions…

I'm discussing a new site with a client. The site will include a catalog with photos and product descriptions.

A design issue will be whether to break up long product categories into separate pages, or put all the products from a category into single pages which will require vertical scrolling.

My preference is to create separate pages. My client thinks her customers will prefer to scroll down rather than jump to a new page.

I know there are some "it depends" answers to this debate. Has anybody got any good research-based evidence about what is best?... Read more
