CIT Hair Transplant Prevails Over Strip |

Donor harvesting has advanced significantly over the years. One of the early advancements was to place two layers of sutures in strip harvests. We found that a single strip scar was easier to resolve and conceal than multiple strip scars. We found that second strip harvests of the same strip scar resulted in wider scars if a two layer closure was not performed. Subsequently, with strip harvesting, the trichophytic closure was adopted by many with the promise that it would leave undetectable scars. This simply is not the case. In order to overcome the limitations of strip scars, we developed the CIT method of donor harvesting. The development of this procedure has advanced significantly over time in our hands with the creation of many new instruments and techniques. These advancements help to minimize the risk of detection. As with any surgical procedure, however, individual results may vary. Furthermore, the removal of thousands of grafts might negatively affect the cosmetic result. Still, it remains our opinion that regardless of the number of grafts removed, CIT will result in a better cosmetic result than any strip harvest. Of course, if you are comfortable with a longer hair style and you are not concerned with having a strip scar, a strip harvest may still be a suitable option for you. Still recognize that hair styles change over time. Those who thought they would never wear their hair short, often find that a shorter hair style is preferential in their mature years. For the discerning individual who is not comfortable with a strip scar, the options should point you in the direction of CIT. This video depicts a number of individuals who underwent large and small procedures of CIT. If you have already had a strip scar, recognize that additional strip procedures make concealment more difficult as hair growth direction problems become more significant with multiple strip harvests. Therefore, it is important for those already with a strip scar to recognize that CIT is an option down that road. We can graft the strip scar with CIT and add additional coverage to the top. The most effective way to minimize evidence that hair transplant surgery was done remains a combination of CIT and farming body hair into the donor area.
