2. Take medications as directed. Leave 3 doses of each medication for your next procedure. No ASPIRIN containing products for 2 weeks. If you have a headache take Tylenol.
3. Avoid strenuous activity or lifting form 7-10 days. Do not bend over to pick up objects or tie your shoes for 48 hors. If you need to pick up something light, please squat. Exerting oneself may cause bleeding from the transplanted areas as well as swelling of your scalp and forehead.
4. No alcohol for 48 hours. Avoid the use of marijuana and other chemical substances not prescribed for one week.
5. Sleep with your head elevated on two or three pillows, for several nights.
6. 24-36 hours after surgery, shampoo the graft sites gently with the shampoo provided by the clinic. You can be more aggressive when cleaning the donor area. Shampoo your head twice a day for three days. You may use your regular shampoo immediately after shampooing with our cleanser. Be careful not to let the shower water hit your directly on the graft sites. You may want to keep a cup in the shower to help rinse the graft sites. Blot dry the graft sites until ALL scabs have fallen off.
7. No swimming in chlorinated water for 2 weeks.
8. Do not get sunburned or expose your scalp to the sun for 2 weeks after surgery and 2 weeks prior to your next procedure. This includes tanning beds.
9. If you develop swelling in your forehead and eye, place a wrapped ice pack on your forehead, NOT on the graft sites. This can pull out the implanted grafts. Swelling is not a serious problem. It will go away after a few days. Please report any swelling to IHTI.
10. If bleeding occurs, apply a light and steady pressure for 20-30 minutes with a wet cloth. If you press too hard, you may dislodge the surrounding grafts. If the bleeding does not stop, please contact IHTI immediately. If you are out of town, go to the nearest emergency room and ask the attending physician to suture the area.
11. The sutures in the donor area need to be removed in 10-14 days.
PLEASE BE ADVISED: If you have received one or more Valium (5mg) to help you relax during your surgical procedure, you may be too drowsy to drive a car. If you are drowsy, you may want to have someone else drive you home. If you would like us to arrange transportation for you, please let us know.
