| These pages contain available hair loss product include Propecia, Avodart, Rogaine, and Nizoral
shampoo. All of these products have been shown to reduce hair loss in many
patients, but not all. In a smaller percentage the amount of hair actually
increases. Propecia was the first pill approved by the FDA to grow hair. It
mainly stablizes hair loss. About 8 out of 10 people maintain their hair. 1 out
of 10 have less hair loss. 1 out of 10 have no benefit. Avodart works the same
way as Propecia except that it blocks both types of 5 alpha-reductase. It has
not been approved by the FDA for hair loss yet, but it may grow more hair. It
lasts much longer for hair loss, but its side affects last much longer too.
Rogaine is effective, but it is messy and oily. Nizoral shampoo is available in
1% over the counter and 2% by prescription. It is just as effective as Rogaine
in treating hair loss. Use it twice a week and shampoo for 5 to 10 minutes
before rinsing. |
